FRED SIRKEY

Fred Sirkey has always loved radio. He grew up listening to New York deejays like Dan Ingram and B. Mitchel Reed. When FM came along, he became a fan of progressive radio personalities Bob Fass and Vin Scelsa, who inspired him to try a show of his own (with roommate Marc Fleisher) on his college station at American University. When they were hired at WHFS their show, Thru the Looking Glass, was one of the first freeform shows on what would become an iconic progressive station. Still a music lover, Fred and his wife Debbie can be found at any of the live music venues near their DC-area home. He’s featured in the upcoming documentary about WHFS.
