When Lugee Alfredo Giovani was growing up in Glen Willard, Pennsylvania his choir teacher, impressed with his solo performances, encouraged him to be a classical singer. But Lugee wanted to be on American Bandstand.  he got his wish. but by then he was Lou Christie, and unlike most of the teen idols of the day, he wrote his own songs with Twyla Herbert, an unlikely collaborator 30 years his senior who discovered him  when he was 15 and his group, The Crewnecks, auditioned for her. His first hit was The Gypsy Cried. He had two more and did a tour with Dick Clark’s Caravan Of Stars before the Army stalled his career for two years. But when he resumed his career lightning struck again…literally. Lightnin’ Strikes became his signature song. Over the years, Lou has shared the stage with artists including the Rolling Stones, The Who and Roy Orbison. Elton John played the piano for him in the early 70’s, and, along with musicians like John Lennon and Madonna, consider him an influence.

He moved to the UK and took a break from music in the 70’s, marrying former Miss UK Francesca Winfield and working as a ranch hand and a carnival barker. He returned to writing and performing in the 80’s and still tours. He occasionally hosts specials on Sirius/XM’s 60’s on 6 channel.
